The Chocolate Factory – Long Island City, NY
Amsterdam based artists Rob List, Constance Neuenschwander & Tian Rotteveel take up residency in The Chocolate Factory. Things are getting difficult at Pygmalion’s studio. The artist has fled. The muses, now on their own, dance around to keep from freezing up. Remembering the artist doesn’t help. There’s a noisy neighbor. Have to play by ear.
Continuing The Chocolate Factory’s interest in international collaboration, Play By Ear features anti-conceptual movement, dance, and song from the American expatriate mime Rob List. Based in Amsterdam for the past twenty years, he has worked both solo and together with young dancers, visual artists, filmmakers and sound designers to create abstract but emotionally-charged performance in galleries and theaters throughout Europe. For this project he works together with Constance Neuenschwander & Tian Rotteveel. In 2010 he was a month-long resident artist at Parker’s Box in Williamsburg, featuring the peripheral performance On the Balcony, called by Claudia La Rocco in the NY Times “Playful, sensual and kinesthetic, On the Balcony was magical.”
