Playing Pianos at NYC, SXSW and The Roxy Theatre in LA, come see the Bombay Show Pig.  Right off the bat, the spirited on-stage chemistry between Mathias Janmaat and Linda van Leeuwen became something special – emanating the kind of gusto we only see in today’s finest two-way rock outfits.

A magical synergy, boosted by Janmaats penchant for writing well-crafted, off the wall pop melodies and Van Leeuwens whimsical energy behind the drums . After starting out as a supposed one-and-done conservatory project, Dutch duo Bombay Show Pig has steadily sculpted their compact and crisp garage blueprint into a vibrant collage of catchy rock tunes.

The result is debut LP ‘Vulture/Provider’, recorded at Kytopia – Utrecht’s quintessential candyland for musicians. With producer Simon Akkermans (C-Mon & Kypski) at the helm and Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys, The Rapture) providing mixing duties, Bombay Show Pig finally has a body of work to match their well-earned live reputation. Meanwhile, Mathias and Linda continue to rock fans home and abroad into a stupor, their musical boundaries persistently expanding as we speak.

At the Dutch Impact Party at SXSW, The Black Atlantic will kick off their US tour. Not going to SXSW? No problem, with 15 upcoming shows and more tour dates to be announced, The Black Atlantic will tour the US throughout March. For more information and tour dates please visit theblackatlantic.com.

Following their tour, The Black Atlantic will be Artists in Residence this spring in Los Angeles as part of the Cultural Exchange International Program. They will work with local youth at 826LA on lyrics and creative writing. Their work there will form the basis of a benefit album of music by the band. Gert-Jan Prins has been known for twenty years as one of the most challenging sound artists in the Netherlands, .
He is an autodidact who focuses on the sonic and musical qualities of electronic ‘noise’.
In his work, Prins makes connections with modern electronic club culture, occupying a radical position with his investigation of electronic sound
and its relationship to the visual. He also creates links with the performance art and machine art of the 1980s, which reshaped the legacy of
industrial society to produce threatening, yet sometimes also sublime, encounters with technology.

Prins has built various analogue- and digital electronic systems that create signals within the listenable audio domain.
Besides his solo-project, current projects include MIMEO, Synchronator (with Dutch video artist Bas van Koolwijk), The Flirts (with Cor Fuhler),
he has collaborated with Pita, Thomas Lehn, Lee Ranaldo, Anne la Berge, Fennesz, the Vacuum Boys, Peter van Bergen,

For many of us, suffering a painful break-up means a journey through the famous five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Laura Jansen learned this unpleasant lesson five years ago as she struggled to make sense of the implosion of a very stormy romantic relationship. “The end came on Christmas Day, which was pretty awesome,” she says jokingly before turning reflective. “I thought the pain might literally kill me, but it’s amazing the little things you start to do to save your own life. It’s fascinating.”

Jansen, a Dutch-born, Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and musician, chronicles those little things, like cutting her hair, buying pink floral sheets, and venturing out for a drink with the guy down the hall, on “Single Girls” — the deceptively simple, but emotionally devastating first single from her debut album Bells, a dreamy collection of piano-driven alt-pop songs with lush arrangements and intimate, intelligent lyrics reflecting the thoughts and hopes of an independent girl alone in the world.

In the U.S., Jansen is a fixture in the constellation of artists associated with Los Angeles nightclub The Hotel Café — a musical haven, creative incubator, and ultimately, national launching pad for such confessional-minded artists as Sara Bareilles, Priscilla Ahn, and Joshua Radin, whom Jansen toured with in 2008 and in 2011. Jansen’s songs were used in various television shows on MTV and ABC. Jansen, being half American, half Dutch, was invited to The Netherlands in 2009 for a series of appearances, which led to her signing with Universal Music. Debut album Bells (composed of Jansen’s two previously released EP’s 2007’s Trauma and 2009’s Single Girls, plus “Use Somebody”), has already gone platinum in Jansen’s native Holland and reached a #1 position on iTunes. Propelled by “Single Girls” and a stunning cover of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” which has spent more than 6 months lodged in the Top 25 on the Dutch singles chart. Jansen hit the road in Europe with her pal William Fitzsimmons as a member of his band as well as his support act. In 2010 she sold out both headline tours of her own in The Netherlands, after which she toured in Germany, Austria, UK as fans spread the word.

A performance of Louis Andriessen’s Hoketus will begin from the outdoor balconies of the New York Stock Exchange building, co-presented with Darmstadt “Classics of the Avant Garde”. Hoketus is a pioneering minimalist piece by Dutch composer Andriessen, written in 1976 for two spatially-separated quintets. For 25 minutes these two groups of musicians – one on the balconies and one on the street – will alternate notes, never playing simultaneously, but creating melodies through the interactions between them, using a “Hocketing” technique developed in the 14th century. A successful performance of this exciting, energetic piece requires great concentration and split-second timing. Contemporary music specialists Yarn/Wire will lead the ensemble.

Make Music New York is a live, free musical celebration across the city that takes place each June 21, the longest day of the year. On that day, hundreds of public spaces throughout the five boroughs become impromptu stages for over 1,000 free concerts.
