ICP: Instant Composers Pool is touring the US, and will make a stop in Brooklyn. ICP is a mixed ensemble: part jazz band, part chamber orchestra. On stage, the space between Misha’s piano and Han’s drums is occupied by a thorny string trio: viola, cello and doublebass. Across from them is a five-piece horn section, three reeds and two brass. As in Ellington’s band, distinctive, individual players can merge beautifully on the written material. » Read more «

Tribeca Film Festival – New York, NY
The Dutch are well presented at the annual Tribeca Film Festival. Four films are shown during the festival including a documentary about the Dutch herring fishers, a new picture by famous director Paul Verhoeven, the North-American premiere of a Dutch horror picture and a movie collaboration between Belgium and the Netherlands.

Dutch-American composer and performer Frances-Marie Uitti pioneered a revolutionary dimension to the cello by transforming it for the first time into a polyphonic instrument capable of sustained chordal (two, three, and four-part) and intricate multivoiced writing. Using two bows in one hand, this invention permits contemporaneous cross accents, multiple timbres, contrasting 4-voiced dynamics, simultaneous legato/articulated playing, that her previous work with a curved bow couldn’t attain.

Ultra Music Festival – Miami, FL
Ultra Music Festival is considered the world’s premiere electronic music festival and the Dutch DJ’s are very well represented as usual. The 15th Ultra Music Festival will see the festival expand into two weekends, held from March 15 to 17, and March 22 to 24. Both of these weekends will coincide with the beginning and end of Miami Music Week.
