Author and ex-child star Diana Serra Cary and Vera Iwerebor will come to the Museum in person on September 5 to introduce the New York premiere of Vera Iwerebor’s documentary Baby Peggy: The Elephant in the Room (2010) and a selection of Diane Serra Cary’s newly restored silent comedies. Born in 1918 and cast in her first role at 19 months in age, Cary headlined a series of Century Comedy shorts and Universal features between 1919 and 1926, rivaling the fame of her male counterpart Jackie Coogan, and predating the sound-era celebrity of Shirley Temple. Cary and Iwerebor will be present for a Q&A and autograph session after the premiere screening.

Vera Iwerebor was born in Uithoorn, The Netherlands. With a lifelong passion for film and film history, she began her film career in 2003. After working as an initiator of and researcher for the documentary Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (2004), she decided to make her own films. In 2008, she produced and directed her first short documentary, A Silent Star with Anita Page. The documentary BABY PEGGY, THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM (2010) was released in Europe in 2011 and made its U.S. premiere at the 2012 TCM Classic Film Festival.
