News Item: De nieuwe Geert Mak: Reizen zonder John (Dutch Only)
Op zoek naar Amerika
Op 23 september 1960 vertrok de legendarische schrijver John Steinbeck met zijn poedel Charley voor een expeditie dwars door het Amerikaanse continent. Hij wilde zijn land en zijn landgenoten opnieuw leren kennen. Precies vijftig jaar later, op het uur af, stond Geert Mak opnieuw voor het oude huis van Steinbeck. Het was het begin van een hernieuwde inspectietocht, in het voetspoor van Charley en John, maar nu met de ogen van 2010. Wat is er de afgelopen halve eeuw in de Amerikaanse steden en dorpen veranderd? Waar is Mainstraat USA gebleven? Met welke dromen joegen de Amerikanen al die eeuwen hun idealen na? Wat is ervan terecht gekomen? Wat rest er nog van die ‘stad op de heuvel’, het Beloofde Land waarnaar ooit de hele wereld opkeek? News Item: Book launch & Signing by Dutch Director Paul Binnerts
‘Acting in Real Time’ by renowned Dutch director adn acting teacher Paul Binnerts has been published in English by the distinguished Michigan University Press. It describes his method for Real-Time Theater, which authorizes actors to actively determine how a story is told.
Paul Binnerts teaches at New York University and at the Amsterdam Theater School in the Netherlands.
This event will take place in the NYU Bookstore on 726 Broadway, New York at October 3rd from 6:30-8:00PM

News Item: Adelheid Roosen Winner of the Proscenium award 2012
Adelheid Roosen, artistic director of ” Female Economy & Zina” received the Proscenium Award 2012 from the Dutch Theater Jury during the Gala of the Dutch Theater.
“With few resources but a lot of commitment and idealism, the women of Female Economy & Zina conquered themselves a spot in theater world.
Previous performances of Adelheid like ‘Wijksafari Slotermeer’, ‘MOES’ and ‘Is.Man’ where praised for the intensive period of research for the production. All with the same, simple but all saying philosophy: ‘I am here because you are there’.

News Item: Olga Garay-English has been made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres
Olga Garay-English, Executive Director of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), has been made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of Order of Arts and Letters), one of France’s most distinguished titles, by the French Ministry of Culture and Communications.
The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) is an Order of France, established on May 2, 1957 by the Minister of Culture, and confirmed as part of the Order National du Mérite by President Charles de Gaulle in 1963. Its purpose is the recognition of significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields. The rank of Chevalier (knight) confers membership in the Order, and is only very selectively awarded to non-French nationals.

News Item: Jim Jarmusch and Jozef Van Wissem Announce New LP, Share Music Video
On November 13, filmmaker-turned-guitar shredder Jim Jarmusch and lute player Jozef Van Wissem will release their second collaborative album of 2012. The Mystery of Heaven, the follow-up to Concerning the Entrance Into Eternity, will be out via Sacred Bones. To tide you over, Concerning’s “The Sun of the Natural World is Pure Fire” now has its own epic short film.

News Item: Joop van den Ende receives honorary degree from Nyenrode Business University
Dutch Theater, Television and Film producer Joop van den Ende will receive an honorary degree from the distinguished Nyenrode Business University in September later this year. “Joop van den Ende is a symbol of successful entrepreneurship in the Netherlands as well as abroad” says the Dean and CEO of Nyenrode University.
Internationally, Joop van den Ende is known for producing many successful musicals, such as ’42nd Street’, ‘Urinetown’, and ‘Into the Woods’ on Broadway, and the international television hit ‘Big Brother’ that he co-created with Dutch producer John de Mol (forming one of the biggest producing companies EndeMol). He also owns several international theaters, such as de Nieuwe DeLaMar in Amsterdam and New World Stages in New York.
In 2011, Van den Ende received another honorary degree from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam for his role as a pioneer in the cultural sector.

On 19th of July 2012 on the opening night of Mysteries on Marken both artistic leaders of Speeltheater Holland, Onny Huisink and Saskia Janse, were honored and appointed as Knights in Order of Orange-Nassau (Ridders in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau) by the Mayor of Edam, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands,
The Order is a chivalry order for a person who deserve appreciation and recognition from society for the special way in which they have carried out their activities. Saskia & Onny are given this special honor because of their contribution for more than 37 years to the Theatre for Young Audiences and Puppetry, as well as in the Netherlands as in many countries abroad.

News Item: Netherlands’ Dekoor Close Harmony winner of The World Title in both the Jazz and the Popular Music Category at the 2012 World Choir in Cincinnati, Ohio
Netherlands’ Dekoor Close Harmony won The World Title in both the Jazz and the Popular Music Category at the 2012 World Choir held earlier this week in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2010 they were also World Champion of Jazz at the World Choir Games, then held in China. July 18th, Dekoor will perform in collaboration with the New York based professional vocal ensemble Salvatones at the Park Avenue Christian Church in New York.
